10 Personal Rules for Concertgoing (That Everyone Should Follow)

Going to a concert is more than just watching a band—it’s an experience, a vibe, a night you’ll probably remember forever. And if you want to get the most out of it (and not annoy everyone around you), these are my tried-and-true personal rules for making every show the best it can be.

1. Don’t miss the opener. Even if you’ve never heard of them or think you won’t care—go. Get there early. Openers are handpicked for a reason, and they’re part of the journey the headliner wants you to take. Some of my favorite bands were openers I stumbled into.

2. Eat before you go. Venue food is overpriced and often… meh. Plus, no one wants to be mid-set and suddenly starving. Fuel up beforehand so you can focus on vibing, not your stomach.

3. Look at the stage, not your phone. Take a quick 30-second video if you want the memory, but then tuck your phone away. There’s nothing like the real thing. Don’t experience it through a screen.

4. Protect your ears. This is huge. Standing near speakers without ear protection can cause long-term damage. Get yourself some quality earplugs (I swear by Eargasm plugs), and always bring them. Your future self will thank you.

5. Functional shoes over fashion. You're going to be standing, dancing, maybe walking across a giant parking lot. Wear comfy shoes—and bonus points if you throw in some good insoles. Your feet, back, and knees deserve it.

6. Respect personal space (when possible). Crowds are tight, but a little awareness goes a long way. If you’ve got room, use it. Don’t be the person pushing through every five minutes.

7. Don’t ruin someone else’s good time with yours. We’re all there to enjoy the music. Party hard, sing loud—but don’t be that person who makes it about them. Read the room.

8. Support the artists. If you liked the show, buy the merch. That hoodie, shirt, or sticker helps bands way more than you think—and it’s a cool way to remember the night.

9. Flash = NO. Seriously. Filming with your flashlight on is distracting to the band and everyone behind you. Double-check that it’s off.

10. Shut up and dance. It's a lyric from Opiuo, and it nails the whole vibe. Let loose. Stop worrying about how you look. Just move your body and enjoy the moment. 😀
